Day 1

Fly overnight to Johannesburg.

Day 2

Connect with a short onward flight to Windhoek, where you'll be greeted and driven to your hotel in the suburbs. Your 4WD hire car will be delivered this afternoon and you will be briefed on the routes and driving in Namibia. This evening you might want to sample Joe's Beerhouse or The Olive Restaurant, two very different Windhoek eateries!

Day 3

After breakfast you'll drive north to the Central Highlands for a two night stay at Okonjima.

Day 4

As the home of the Africat Foundation, there will be plenty of chance for you to get close to big cats at Okonjima and learn about conservation programmes. An after dinner visit to the night hide to watch porcupines come and feed is also a unique pleasure.

Day 5

With one memorable wildlife destination under your belt, it's time for another with the drive to eastern Etosha. Here you will stay for two nights just outside the park gate, with ample time to explore and view wildlife under your own steam.

Day 6

A full day to explore eastern Etosha – look out for lion, elephant, giraffe, cheetah and antelope, as well as some diverse birdlife and the spectacular Etosha Pan.

Day 7

Today you will drive across the southern sector of Etosha for a one night stay at a restcamp near the south gate. Just sitting by the waterhole here with a relaxing drink in hand is a fantastic game viewing experience, especially in the dry season when masses of animals come to drink.

Day 8

This morning's drive takes you south west into Damaraland to the magnificent scenery of the Grootberg area. You will stay for one night here and may want to book an excursion tracking rhino or a visit to meet the nomadic Himba people.

Day 9

The drive south through Damaraland is incredibly scenic, ending in the Twyfelfontein area where you'll stay for two nights.

Day 10

Attractions in this area include the ancient Twyfelfontein rock paintings and the chance to book a guided excursion to look for desert adapted elephant.

Day 11

Travel east today to the strewn kopjes and expansive plains of the Erongo Mountains. This is prime walking territory, and your two night stay includes guided hikes.

Day 12

Your final full day in Namibia. There is another rock art site nearby, and you may also want to book a nature drive to look for wildlife within the conservancy.

Day 13

Today's drive ends at Windhoek airport. After handing in your keys it's time for the overnight journey home, via Johannesburg.

Day 14

Arrive in the UK.
