Day 1

Fly overnight to Johannesburg.

Day 2

Connect with a short onward flight to Windhoek, where you'll be greeted and driven to your hotel in the suburbs. Your 4WD hire car will be delivered this afternoon for a briefing on the routes and driving in Namibia. This evening you might want to sample Joe's Beerhouse or The Olive Restaurant, two very different Windhoek dining options!

Day 3

After breakfast it's a drive north of roughly three hours to the private Okonjima Reserve, home to the renowned Africat Foundation. This admirable project has undertaken sterling conservation work with big cats and other predators, which you will track on activities during your two night stay.

Day 4

Guided morning and afternoon activities at Okonjima, which involves getting close to cheetah, leopard, wild dog and hyena, learning about the challenges they face and conservation efforts. A visit to the night hide after dinner is an enjoyable end to the evening, as hungry porcupines visit to snack.

Day 5

This morning you will drive north to the private Onguma reserve just outside the eastern gate of Etosha, for a two night stay. In the afternoon you can explore the eastern reaches of the park under your own steam.

Day 6

A fascinating activity searching out white rhino that have been introduced to the reserve as part of a rhino custodian project at your lodge. Guests may get to track the rhino on foot and can contribute to raw field data for the project.

Day 7

After breakfast you'll drive across Etosha, stopping at various waterholes to see abundant wildlife on your way. Tonight will be spent close to the southern gate.

Day 8

Driving west today, the remote beauty of northern Damaraland becomes increasingly apparent. You will spend two nights here in the Palmwag Concession at Desert Rhino Camp, closely linked to the Save the Rhino Trust.

Day 9

A full day to track one of Africa's largest populations of free roaming black rhino, while learning about conservation efforts and helping to generate data with a SRT researcher.

Day 10

Today's drive moves into Southern Damaraland, for one night close to the ancient Twyfelfontein rock art site. You may want to book an excursion to search for desert adapted elephant on a game drive.

Day 11

East to the Erongo Mountains today, where a guided walk will introduce you to the flora and fauna within a scenic private reserve.

Day 12

Drive back to Windhoek to drop your car off at the airport. Your overnight journey home stops en route in Johannesburg.

Day 13

Arrive in the UK.
