Day 1
Fly overnight to Johannesburg.
Day 2
Connect with a short onward flight to Windhoek, where you'll be greeted and driven to your hotel in the suburbs. Your 4WD hire car will be delivered this afternoon for a briefing on the routes and driving in Namibia. This evening you might want to sample Joe's Beerhouse or The Olive Restaurant, two very different Windhoek eateries!
Day 3
An early start for the drive south to the Southern Kalahari, a remote land of desert dunes, scrubby grassland and specially adapted wildlife. Tonight you will stay in a comfortable permanent lodge.
Day 4
Your Trans-Kalahari hike begins, heading over seemingly infinite dunes and through secluded valleys where herds of oryx and giraffe graze on the meagre grasses. Accommodation tonight is in a luxury tent, with meals prepared on a roaring campfire and star gazing before bed.
Day 5
Today's hike back to your lodge passes through the savannah region known as the Great Karoo. Tonight will be spent comfortably back at the permanent lodge.
Day 6
Back on the road today, you journey west to the different desert environs of the Namib. During your one day in the Sesriem area there will be plenty of exertion for keen walkers, with the chance to climb Dune 45 and other huge dunes next to Dead Vlei.
Day 7
After driving south into the Namibrand Nature Reserve you will join up with the Tok Tokkie Trails walking itinerary. The wonderful, varied landscapes include mountainous kopjes, wide valleys and soft dunes. After traversing these, a peaceful night in a bed roll under the stars is enticing.
Day 8
More hikes to enjoy the remote beauty of the Namibrand, before dinner round the campfire and another night under the desert sky.
Day 9
Today's drive north ends in the Naukluft Mountains, where you'll stay for one night. There are plenty of unguided walking trails for those still feeling active, but you might want to spend one at least one day relaxing!
Day 10
A scenic drive north-east takes you to the Erongo Mountains, where you'll stay for two nights in a stunning location that is less arid than your previous stops.
Day 11
Guided walks are included in your stay, while there are many unguided trails and the chance to book nature drives to a nearby ancient rock art site.
Day 12
This morning you will head further north-east to the broad, verdant peaks of the Waterberg Plateau. This is again prime walking territory, with generous smatterings of wildlife to decorate the landscapes.
Day 13
A final day of walks, vistas and sunsets in Namibia, before a well-deserved relaxing evening!
Day 14
The drive back south-west to Windhoek will take around three and a half hours. After dropping your car off, your overnight journey home goes via Johannesburg.
Day 15
Arrive in the UK.
